Sahahra is working in partnership with Derby Bosnia Herzegovina Community Association and Derby Refugee Forum on a Tutor Trust funded project – Health Without Borders. Our aim is to improve access to health services for ethnic minority communities in Derby. We hosted a very successful conference which attracted the attention of health commissioners and we have now set up a Health Without Borders group which meets quarterly to discuss how GP surgeries and community organisations can work together to combat health inequalities in the city. As part of our project, we have also recruited 16 volunteer Community Health Educators who have been trained in Cancer Awareness, Diabetes Awareness, Stroke Awareness, Cardiac Disease Awareness and Respiratory Disease Awareness to transmit reliable health information to their communities in community languages.
